All about cockroach and roach control
Cockroaches can spread in large numbers anywhere from private apartments to luxury restaurants.
Also in cars, buses, and planes (well, maybe less so now because of the coronavirus). Where do they come from? Cockroaches come to us through water pipes, gas and electrical pipes, sewers, cracks in walls, and more.
Trust them – they know how to get there.

The spread of cockroaches and roaches
Cockroaches are great hitchhikers. In fact, the first German cockroach to arrive in your apartment is usually hiding in a box!
They can also reach you while hiding in furniture or any item you bring into your apartment.
Most other types of cockroaches reach us through sewer pipes, drains, and mainly from warm, dark, damp places.

American cockroach or German cockroach?
Cockroaches, especially the American cockroach (the type commonly found in apartments), prefer to rest on wood or in the crevices of wood (this is one of the reasons they also like your cabinets, especially the cabinet under the sink) than any other surface. In the case of the German and American cockroaches, their feces contain a pheromone that marks the area as an area that can be invaded, thus inviting others to come. This is why you see (or at least now you should start looking for) an area with a lot of feces (where the black marks with a not-so-pleasant smell come from) – usually in drawers and cabinets near the cabinet under the sink – where you will often find a large accumulation of cockroaches. These spots are called cockroach accumulation points.

The American cockroach
(more common in homes)
American cockroaches can produce 120-320 eggs during their lifetime.
E.Coli and Salmonella bacteria are transmitted through the food we eat (especially when they visit the same food we eat).
At Mezikis we do not compromise when it comes to cockroach control – you will receive the best and most effective materials available. (Today, we use a microcapsule material called ” Drucker ” for American cockroach control or, starting in 2023, a material of the highest quality (and most expensive on the Israeli market) called: Tamfrid .)
Since we will always be transparent on the subject – you can always read about the pesticides we use.
Cockroaches will always look to get into your home – at Mezikis we will always keep them out (and we also give you a one-year warranty on it)!
The American cockroach is the most common cockroach in Israel – especially in the summer. It is reddish-brown in color and can reach up to 5 cm in length.
The male and female American cockroach have wings and may reach us by flying through the window of the house and other openings that we sometimes do not know about.
The American cockroach loves and often hangs out in areas with high humidity, such as sewers, food storage areas, and garbage piles.

German cockroach extermination
(More common in restaurants)

The German cockroach is a cockroach that is not dependent on the season – it can appear in summer and winter equally.
It is light brown in color and 1.5 cm long.
The cockroach has 2 dark, parallel longitudinal stripes on the front thorax. Both male and female German cockroaches have wings, but they cannot fly.
The German cockroach is more resistant to pesticides, so when dealing with the German cockroach, we will use, in addition to green pesticides (spray), also a gel for the German cockroach.
These cockroaches hide mainly in the kitchen in warm places such as various water appliances, behind the refrigerator, microwave, stove, and all those places that emit high heat.
The German cockroach reproduces quickly and has a shorter life cycle than all other types of cockroaches, so the speed of calling the exterminator is of great importance.

What happens after the cockroaches are exterminated?
After spraying and placing the baits, you usually stop seeing live cockroaches after two to five days, since we do not use pesticides based on organophosphorus ( banned from use since 2008) .
Up to two weeks after spraying, it is okay to see live cockroaches (although you will probably see 95% dead ones).
Two weeks from the date of spraying, if you encounter live cockroaches – contact Mezikis immediately. Mezikis – until the last cockroach.
How to prepare the house before carrying out cockroach extermination?
When exterminating German cockroaches (and also when exterminating American cockroaches with very high infestations), the lower cabinets must be emptied. Of what exactly? Of all the dishes and food.
Before we exterminate with gel – let’s note that there is no food competing with our baits, on the one hand, and on the other hand, the spray penetrates all the crevices and places infested with cockroaches.
Then and only then will the extermination be 100 percent successful.
With a light infestation of cockroaches (American cockroaches only) – in the kitchen, only the cabinet under the sink should be cleared. And in general, in the house, just move objects away from the wall.
In both types of pest control (German and American), we recommend clearing the kitchen countertop of dishes and food. Usually, in apartments that are not new (such as contractor apartments, etc.) there are holes in the grout (or in the silicone) that connect the ceramic tiles to the countertop – these are particularly popular places for cockroaches and other pests, and therefore they should be exterminated (with spray or gel baits).

Cockroach behavior – why in my house?
You feel a little hungry and go to the refrigerator door in the kitchen, wondering what to make for dinner. Suddenly (SUDDENLY) a cockroach walks by you. You don’t panic, you don’t scream, you take off your shoe, you go to hit it hard, but the cockroach is gone. How do they do it? What do they even do in your house? You wonder why you pay the cleaner – don’t despair, we’ll learn a little about cockroach behavior now.

Understanding Cockroach Behavior
If you’ve found a cockroach in your home, chances are it’s not the only one. Like us (at least most of us), cockroaches are social animals. Cockroaches communicate with each other using chemicals called cuticular hydrocarbons, which are released on the cockroach’s body as well as in the cockroach’s feces, which shows other cockroaches the path to your apartment. Cockroaches also release these chemicals to warn each other and tell each other where to hide. Not only do cockroaches like to live in their own family, they also love to live in the same place for several generations.
Get to know their pattern – the cockroach pattern
Once we understand the type of cockroach we are dealing with, we can shed light on how they reproduce rapidly and also understand why some cockroaches like one thing and others like another. A cockroach can communicate with others to tell them where the best food can be found – maybe it’s the children’s bedroom? Maybe it’s the kitchen counter? Either way, the cockroaches know where you’ll leave food at night and they’ve already figured out how to make the most of it.
You’ve probably asked yourself how cockroaches got into the house in the first place? Cockroaches are excellent at finding holes and cracks in the wall, so wherever there’s even the smallest crack, you can count on their ability to get through. Didn’t you remember to do the dishes at night? Cockroaches already know how to take advantage of this – all they need is a small crack (for example, in the cabinet under the sink) and you’re stuck, and not only that, you’ll go tell your friends that you like to leave dirty dishes in the sink.

The German cockroach comes to those who are not “German” in cleanliness
The German cockroach, which is more common in restaurants, is also more resistant to standard pesticides, and also requires special treatment with German cockroach gel and traps. Not only that, the female German cockroach that survives lives a total of six months, but these are particularly fertile six months. The female German cockroach will produce between 180-320 offspring – think about it for a moment, under optimal conditions – without any interference from Mezikis , within a few months you can count thousands of new German cockroaches.
Why are cockroaches so elusive?
Couldn’t figure out how the cockroach managed to slip out of your shoe? Consider this – the American cockroach, yes the one most common in apartments, runs at a speed of 5 km/h. While that may not sound particularly fast, it’s actually 50 times the cockroach’s body length per second, compared to a cheetah (the fastest animal) that only runs 18 times its body length per second. Add to that the fact that cockroaches can turn 180 degrees on the spot – this allows them to be super fast and elusive creatures.

With the Mezikis , knowledge, and understanding of how cockroaches live and behave – we will know where to look, where to find, and how to get rid of the cockroach infestation quickly.
