- Termites work for years before you actually see their damage – have you found a sign of termites? It’s a good time to do termite control (it will save you a lot of money to do it yourself).
- Termites can cause irreversible damage to door frames, doors, cabinets, and anything made of wood.
- The vast majority of termites in Israel (as of December 2024) come from underground – the treatment is with sand under the flooring (and in private homes also around the house to create a protective belt).
- Sometimes we will actually use termite control without drilling using the Nemesis method – with feeding stations where the workers take the poison to the queen and poison the nest from the root (not always possible, and not always appropriate).
- The price of termite control depends on the size (apartment, private house or business) and ranges from 25-40 NIS per square meter.
- 5-year warranty for termite control!
At Mezikis we provide termite prevention services before moving into a new home and termite treatment when you first see them in your home.

Videos that explain the whole story – when it comes to termite control
We have compiled a number of videos on the subject of termites that we have recorded over the years from the field. In the videos you will see the “traditional” method of creating the chemical buffer – in the sand under the flooring with an anti-termite material, as well as the new Nemesis method inside and outside the house (the actions are different).
Below the videos, all the explanations about termites in general and termite control in particular, will be posted.
How is termite control carried out?

Drilling method
Termite control without drilling – indoors
Using the Nemesis method (this is where it is said that you have to undergo special training at Rimi to perform this operation) – of course the Mezikis team underwent it.
Termite control without drilling – outside the home (termite feeding stations)
5 signs that termites are in your home
Mud fart | A mud channel the thickness of a brown drinking straw inside the wall – this channel connects the termites to their food source. |
Brown balls | A coffee-brown color, especially in the corners of the house, door corners, etc., can indicate termite waste. |
Evidence of termites (wings) | Termites during their breeding may leave wings on the surface. There may also be evidence of a few dead termites. |
Wood (door frame, door, any furniture) is infected / hollow | Check if the door frame gives you the sound of hollow wood? Compare it with other door frames – remember that the termites’ food is the wood the door frame is made of. |
Explosions in wooden furniture | Please note that if you notice slight explosions in wooden furniture, wooden stairs, etc. – this could be an indication that termites are already in your home. |
Sand in an unexplained place | If you’ve come across an unexplained “mound” of sand, it’s probably termites. |
Termite treatment – termite control
Termite treatment in an apartment includes a drill, filler, pesticide and a sprayer. (Sometimes, in addition to spraying, it will also include Nemesis feeding stations to treat the root of the problem – more common in ground floor apartments / private homes).
Unlike pest control (cockroaches, ants, fleas, etc.), where the pest is above ground, termites are below ground, so we drill every 30-50 cm between the pavers in order to reach the sand on which the pavers sit. After we have drilled throughout the house, we fill the sand between the pavers with a pesticide specifically for termites – each such hole will receive between 1-5 liters of pesticide.
After treatment, we seal the holes.
After such treatment, you must leave the house for an hour. Treatment of an average apartment ranges from 2-3 hours and the price of termite control ranges from 25-40 NIS per square meter.
For example: The price of destroying a 3-room apartment of 80 square meters will be between 2,000 and 3,200 NIS (including VAT).
The warranty for termites is 5 years.
How to treat termites | What do we do and how do we treat it? |
How is termite control carried out in an apartment? | In termite treatment, we drill holes between the pavers every 30-80 cm and inject between 1-3 liters of pesticide into each hole. The holes are then sealed. |
How do you carry out termite control in a private house? | We drill a hole between the tiles every 30-80 cm, like in an apartment, and also create a “protective belt” around the house. After making the holes, we seal them. |
Do I need to leave the house for termite control? | Not during the drilling phase, but as soon as you begin to carry out the pesticide application, you must leave the sprayed area for at least one hour. |

Interesting facts about termites
- Today in Israel 2024 Termite infestation has reached the entire country
- A termite colony can contain more than a million “workers” that consume 50 kilos of wood per year!
- Termites don’t rest – they work 7< 24
- Termites can penetrate holes the thickness of a credit card!
Characteristics of termites
Size: The size of termites depends on their status. Workers will be 0.3 to 1 cm long. The termites whose job it is to protect the nest will be the same length as the “workers” but stronger with a larger head and stronger mandibles. Those responsible for reproduction will be the largest at 2.5 cm long.
Color: All termites are similar in color. Pale, creamy color.

Termite behavior
Within the termite colony, each termite has a significant and defined role in building the nest. Each has its own job. Some are responsible for bringing food, some are only responsible for raising healthy offspring, and some are responsible for guarding the nest. Each termite has the characteristics that help it do its job optimally – some also have eyes and some do not.
The workers are small and know how to separate the wood (or any other cellulose) from its source. The workers live their lives in a myriad of dark tunnels above and below the ground (or the infamous mud trenches). They don’t have eyes, mainly because they don’t need them. But despite this, they still know how to distinguish between light and dark (no less than amazing!).
They know that being in the light can expose them to dangers (which is why termites are much more active at night) – not only the danger of being attacked but also the danger of losing moisture from their bodies. If a termite finds itself outside (and not in a mud trench) in daylight, it will do everything in its power to return to a dark place.
As the colony grows, the queens give birth and lay eggs to produce more offspring and increase the colony. There are termites whose job is also to reproduce (and are not called queens) that wait between 3-5 years until the nest is large enough to look for another place to settle and raise another termite nest. This type actually has eyes (unlike termites that are defined as worker termites) because they need to leave the nest and find a new place to nest.

Tips against termites
Termite attacks are subtle (they kill us softly) – and their effects are usually not discovered for many years. As time passes and the damage becomes greater, it can be fatal (to the point of destroying all doors, frames, furniture, and anything made of wood). The recommendation is not to wait until the damage is done, but to try to prevent it in advance, or at least if you have seen one of the signs that termites have visited your home – don’t wait! Time is working against you.

How do you prevent termites?
Do you have firewood? Store it away from the house. Eliminate any leaks and moisture from the house in general.
Question: What are the most common signs of termites?
Short answer: 1. Termites, dead or alive. 2. Mud trenches. 3. Hollow wood.
Detailed answer: Since most of the damage caused by termites is inside our home (before we see the damage), in the walls, structure, door frames, etc. – it is not easy to know if we have termites in our home. However, there are 3 warning signs that will give us an answer if we have termites in our home.

Finding termites – dead or alive
Winged termites (which have wings) are often the first sign that you have a termite infestation in your home. Termites are attracted to light and will usually be found near windows, doors, and other light sources. Have you encountered these types of termites, either alive or dead? This is a sure sign that you have a termite colony under your home.
Termites called “workers” are small, bright, and move quickly when in the light (they will usually be in a dark place). Workers cause the most damage to a home because they are responsible for the food (which is the wood our furniture is made of). Look for these signs near light sources, doors, windows, bathroom vents, look for wings or even the termites themselves – if you find them – we are here to take care of them.

Termite mud tubes
Mud channels provide a “refuge” for termites and are about the width of a drinking straw. They are easy to spot and will usually appear on walls near the area where termites are feeding. Look for these mud channels in the cracks between panels, on exposed walls, on walls behind cabinets (an area that can be particularly infested since it is dark 99% of the time).

Hollow tree
Another way to tell if there are termites in your home is to simply knock on the doors and door frames. If you hear a hollow sound (and you can compare this to knocks on other door frames and doors), you know that the house is infested and it’s time to treat the termites before it’s too late.
Question: How much damage can termites really cause?
Answer: Termite damage is estimated at tens of millions of NIS per year in damage to homes, buildings, and furniture. In fact, termites cause much more damage than fires, storms, acts of God, etc.
Question: How can you identify a termite?
Answer: The termites we usually see are the “workers.” The workers are pale, soft-bodied, and about 0.6 cm long. They have a head and body because their structure is relatively broad. Their antennae are straight and they can look like transparent ants or white ants.
But unlike ants, which have a body divided into 3 (head, thorax, and abdomen), ants in general also have antennae that are not straight but rather more curved.
Winged termites (termites with wings) – they have a pair of wings and a wider body. They also range in size from 0.6 to 0.8 cm and we usually identify not the termites themselves but their wings. Remember – have you found wings of something that you don’t recognize? Send them to us and we will help you understand if there are termites in your home.
Question: I spotted a mud channel in the exterior wall of my house – should I be concerned about termites?
Answer: Mud channels are a sure sign that there are termites and active termite activity under your home. Call Mezikis as soon as possible to treat the termites and you will have peace of mind for the next 5 years!
Question: Do termites eat wood?
Answer: Yes! Termites really do eat wood! In nature, termites play a significant role. They help wood turn into humus (not humus). Humus is an organic material full of nutrients for plants and also increases the water absorption capacity of the soil – so it can absorb more water.
Termites know how to digest cellulose – the main material that wood is made of. Termites are organized animals that know how to constantly search for their next food source – contrary to what most of us think, they don’t just eat doors and frames but anything that contains cellulose – wallpaper, books, boxes and of course furniture.
Question: How long do termites live?
Answer: The “workers” live between one and two years, while the queen can live for several decades.
Question: Can termites penetrate concrete?
Answer: Termites cannot pass through concrete but can break through holes the thickness of a credit card.
Question: Why do we see termite wings? And how do they lose their wings?
Answer: Winged termites lose their wings after flying a short distance. Once their wings are detached from them – they lose their ability to fly. They then bury themselves in the ground in order to establish a new termite colony.
Termite Control Price – How much does termite control cost?
Number of rooms (size in square meters) | Termite control price |
Local termite control (usually around door frames) | For one lintel, the price is between 600-800 NIS, for a larger quantity of lintels the price increases slightly (usually between 100-300 per lintel). |
Termite control in an apartment in a building | The price per meter ranges from 30-80 NIS per square meter. This means that a 3-room apartment of 60 square meters will cost between 1800-3000 NIS (depending on the floors, termite infestation, etc.). |
Termite control in a private home | The price ranges from 30-80 NIS per square meter and decreases as the area treated is larger. In addition, there is an additional cost for a “protective belt” that must be installed around the house in private homes. |
Termite control in the building and other spaces | For pest control other than pest control in an apartment, building, or around window frames, in most cases we must come (free of charge) to assess the work and give you a price quote on the spot. |
