Wasps – Just the thought of having them and having to have wasp control done at home makes some of our clients lose it. First of all, we understand, they are big, threatening, and unlike bees that will die if they sting you, wasps have nothing to lose – they can do it whenever they want (we’ll see why soon), which increases the fear in people (and, let’s face it, among exterminators too).
Questions about wasps | Short answers about wasp control |
---|---|
Is a wasp an aggressive insect? And will it attack me? | Let’s start with the good part – wasps are not aggressive. They won’t attack you unless you threaten them. Just be careful not to threaten them. |
Are wasps dangerous? | Wasps themselves may not be dangerous, but they are definitely a nuisance. If you have wasps in your garden – the garden is shut down, if wasps come in through the window – you keep the window closed, and so on. In short, what is the best way to get rid of the nuisance and call Mezikis ? |
How do I know if I have wasps in my garden? | If we are between March and December-January and you see wasps or a nest – it is necessary to exterminate. In January-February, there is no need to carry out wasp extermination. |

Common wasps in Israel
The most common wasps in Israel are the Eastern hornet, the German hornet, and the field hornet. All of them can cause stings in all areas of the body and in very special cases are life-threatening. If you are concerned that you are sensitive and have been stung, seek immediate help at a medical center or hospital near you.
Transparent price
The cost of wasp extermination when you know in advance where the nest is and access does not require special measures is between 350-400 NIS.
Is it worth it alone?
Unlike many types of pests that we recommend and can help you exterminate wasps on your own, do not try to exterminate them on your own.
How do you exterminate wasps?
The procedure is as follows: 1. Locate the nest. 2. Destroy it in the early morning or at sunset (or after). 3. Clean the nest completely and destroy it. 4. One year warranty
Wasp extermination price
- Wasp nest extermination in an accessible place – between 350-450 NIS
- Wasp nest extermination in an inaccessible place – starting at 600 NIS (it is advisable to send video photos beforehand).

Wasps
Wasps are social insects (surprisingly), like ants, termites , and bees. They too have roles divided into queen, workers, males, etc. Before we elaborate a little on each role, we will reveal to you that the development of wasps lasts between 40-42 days during the summer.
A tip worth knowing – Want to make your own wasp trap? Know that wasps love almost everything but meat and fruit the most! Or make a wasp trap and your bait will be meat (poisoned) or one that will attract them to a container that they can enter but not get out (for example, a bottle, fill it with sweet liquid + place fruit inside and you will see the wasps circling above the bottle and trying to get in. (Meat is better).
Wasp Control – Kill the Queen
The queen’s role is to start a family. Apparently, even with wasps, the woman is the home (or the nest, to be more precise). The queen’s role is to found the nest and lay eggs. Don’t think that because she’s called a queen she’s spoiled, at the beginning of the season (April-May) the queen also takes care not only of saying where she wants the nest built, she herself brings the materials (soil and water) and takes care of the little ones for food while laying eggs, and I, I feel a little uncomfortable now when I complain that I have to be the driver of my little ones between the different classes after school.
Just like we ask the government – where is the money? When people call us about wasp control, we ask where is the nest?

Wasp nest
The hornet’s nest will likely be in the following locations:
- There is no need to leave the house after such treatment and there is no need to take the animals out.
- The spraying will take between 10-30 minutes depending on the size of the nest and how the shutter box is opened, and we will not leave you until the problem is completely gone (meaning, there will be no more live wasps in the area).
- Spraying the wasps We will repeat and emphasize throughout the article that it is recommended to do it in the early morning hours or towards sunset (or after), a time when all the wasps are in the nest and not “at work.”
- Hollow pipe, hole in the wall – same thing – the wasps enter your house when the window is open. And all that’s left for us is to destroy the nest.
- Inside a tree trunk – Do you live in a private house and are there wasps outside? Chances are the wasps will build the nest on one of the trees or inside the pergola. Look around sunset where all the wasps come in (“when they come home from work”) and then all that’s left for us to do is exterminate the nest directly.
- On the outside wall – basically, wasps can build a nest anywhere, whether it’s on the outside wall or in the ground – if you haven’t identified where the nest was built, you can wait until the evening hours or you’ll see all the wasps coming in and gathering in a certain area. If you don’t find it, you can always make a wasp trap quite easily to attract the wasps away from you.

Homemade wasp trap
Assuming you are trying to solve the wasp problem on your own, whether by buying a wasp trap or by preparing one, we will give you some highlights.
You will need to clean in one of 2 ways:
- Luring the wasps into a trap they can’t get out of
- Taking the poisoned food by the workers so that they can bring the food to the nest and knock the nest down from the root.
To attract the wasps to the trap, all you need to do is buy a wasp trap and install it according to the instructions. If you want to make your own, you can take a bottle, put bait inside it (meat, sweetened juice, or fruit) – the wasps will enter but will not be able to get out.
If you want to do something in the gray area, take some ground meat, mix it with poison (you can try K300 and similar) and let the workers take the meat back to the nest. Personally, because these are wasps, we do not recommend that you deal with it yourself but rather contact us (the treatment is really not expensive and is worth every shekel, especially if you get stung).

Other roles in the Wasp Kingdom
- Workers – do everything except breeding. Guarding the nest, cleaning, gathering food, etc.
- A beautiful thing that can be seen with wasps is: The nest guard – always, shortly after sunset, when all the wasps are in the nest, there will always be a guard at the entrance to the nest – this is excellent for us to identify the entrance and exit of the nest at night and spray exactly in that place.
- Males – like many animals in nature – have only the function of reproducing and instigating the queen and nothing more (perhaps in the future we will discover that they have additional functions).
- What other insects are social?

When is it appropriate to carry out wasp extermination?
The best time to exterminate wasps is around sunset (or after). Around sunset, all the wasps return “home” to the nest and there is still enough light to make sure we see the nest. If you know exactly where the nest is located, then we can arrive even after sunset and spray directly at the nest until it is completely destroyed.
Another option is to arrive early in the morning (before 7:00 AM) to spray when all the wasps are there.
If you are unable to spray early or late and would like us to arrive during the day, this is possible , but what will happen is that unlike spraying in the evening or early morning when the entire nest is destroyed – during the day the nest will be destroyed, but you will still see wasp movement during the days following the spraying (of the workers).
Once the workers realize that the nest has been destroyed (and some of them will die as a result of contact with the pesticide that will still be in the sprayed area), they will find another place and you will be free of wasps .
Wasp control – how is it done in practice?
- Identifying the nest – after we know where the nest is – whether by locating it on site or by your preliminary location.
- Spray directly on the nest at dusk or early in the morning.
- Waiting until all the wasps die and no more ominous buzzing is heard.
- Cleaning and removing the remaining nest.
- One year warranty – for anything that comes up if and when – we are here
- Price – starting at 400 NIS depending on the location and accessibility of the nest.

Differences between the different wasps
The eastern hornet – the body is 20 mm long and reddish-brown in color. The antennae are brown and the face is yellow.
The German hornet – similar in color to the Eastern hornet but smaller
The shire leprechaun – similar to the eastern leprechaun but builds smaller nests.
The most common and most threatening in our country are the Eastern and German hornets.
How would you know the difference between a wasp and a bee?

(Above is a wasp, below is a bee)

Honey bee
The honeybee, apart from the fact that it is a protected animal and must not be exterminated, is smaller than a wasp and you will usually see lots of bees together (unlike wasps, which you will see “one here, one there”). If you encounter bees, search Google for red bee shield and ask one of the beekeepers to come and take the bee nest. If they tell you there is a place that needs to be exterminated and it is not possible to take the nest , only then will it be possible to exterminate the nest .
As Einstein said: When there are no more bees in the world, life on Earth will also end.
Are wasps aggressive?
The vast majority of wasps will not chase you unless you threaten their nest. The most common exception to this rule is the German hornet, which is more likely to sting if it feels threatened. If you see a German hornet overhead, stay away.
What are wasps afraid of?
Most wasps are afraid of two things: water and darkness. If a wasp crawls on your neck, try spraying it with water from a hose or bottle. If a wasp flies over your head, gracefully walk away from the area.
Are wasps harmful?
Wasps are not naturally aggressive and will only sting humans if they feel threatened. However, their stings can be painful and in rare cases can cause severe allergic reactions and even death in extremely rare cases.
Most wasps are harmless to humans. In fact, some wasps are even beneficial to the environment. Some species of wasps are predators of pests, while other wasps help pollinate flowers and plants.
However, there are a few species of wasps that can pose a threat to humans. These include the German hornet, the Eastern hornet, and the Western hornet. German hornets are known to be aggressive and their stings can be very painful. If you are concerned that you may be allergic to a bee or wasp sting, seek medical attention.
Are wasps good for the environment?
The benefits of wasps
Wasps may seem like a nuisance, but they also play an important role in the ecosystem. Here are some of the benefits of wasps:
- Wasps help control pests.
Wasps are predators of many common pests, such as flies, caterpillars, and beetles. By controlling these pests, wasps help keep gardens and crops healthy.
- Wasps pollinate flowers.
While feeding on nectar, wasps transfer pollen from flower to flower, which helps fertilize plants and produce fruits and vegetables.
- Wasps provide food for other animals.
Birds, bats, and other animals eat the wasps, which helps keep the population in check. In turn, these animals help disperse the seeds of the plants that the wasps pollinate. In short, the wheel of life.
How is wasp control actually carried out?
Wasp control is not child’s play. Wasps are dangerous insects that can cause panic, severe pain, and greater dangers if they decide to attack. We, as experienced exterminators, also put on protective gear (like beekeepers). We will only get around to exterminating wasps in the early morning or at sunset – these are the hours when all the wasps are in the nest.
After we locate the nest and put on a protective suit, we will spray the nest with materials that will force you to evacuate the sprayed area for only one hour.

Why is it important to exterminate wasps before sunrise or after sunset?
The reason is simple, we want to not only destroy the nest but also destroy all the wasps at the same time. If we spray during the hours when the wasps are “at work,” that is, outside the nest, we have done half the job. Although once the nest is destroyed, the wasps that are not in the nest will have nowhere to return, you will see a significant number of wasps circling the area for several days. Therefore, Mezikis ‘ recommendation is to exterminate the wasps only early in the morning or at sunset.
When to look for a hornet’s nest?
The best time to locate the nest is half an hour before sunset. At this time, all the wasps “return home.” This way, you will notice a large number of wasps gathering, entering and exiting through a specific area – this will be the nest. If you miss this time, you can take comfort in the fact that there will always be a “guard” outside the nest. Therefore, if you see a wasp that has not moved from its place in a certain place, you can assume that is where the nest is – to complete the location, wait until the next morning, when all the wasps will have gone to work, or until sunset the next morning.
The common species in Israel are the Eastern hornet (relatively large) and the German hornet (smaller).

Eastern hornet

The German hornet – smaller.
When does all this beauty happen? And how?
I have to tell you personally, a hornet’s nest is a wondrous thing. The architecture and the fact that wasps from nothing build a nest that can number hundreds of workers is something that leaves me speechless every time. .
After winter and in early spring around March, the queen begins to build the nest and give birth to the first larvae. The larvae then grow, become workers, and begin to search for food and take care of building the nest and the additional larvae that are growing for them. The nest continues to thrive and grow, and at its peak can contain up to hundreds of wasps.
Wasp control alone
Unlike many pest guides we have, we always give you tips on how to solve your pest problem yourself, whether it’s ants, cockroaches, rats, or bedbugs . At Wasps, we firmly believe that we do not recommend exterminating wasps on your own. It can be dangerous for you, and if you don’t have the necessary experience or the appropriate pesticides, the harm will far outweigh the benefits.
I can’t find the nest, what can I do?
If wasps are hovering near you, or entering and exiting your window and you cannot find the wasps’ nest, first call and consult with us. We can check for you and give you our value and experience. If a nest is not found, you can purchase a wasp trap and place it where you want the wasps to be trapped. Place the wasp trap far from where you are sitting so that the wasps do not disturb you (the trap will attract wasps to it, imprisoning them without their being able to get out). After a few weeks, the trap will stink and should be replaced with another one (if the nest is not found).
What do wasps eat?
Wasps are predators and subsist on caterpillars, insects, and spiders.
When winter comes, even if you don’t exterminate them, the nest is destroyed by itself (meaning not the structure, but the wasps will no longer be there). The queens that have been born in the meantime go look for another place to build a new nest of their own, and the workers? Honestly, I’ve never thought about what happens to them. Apparently if you’re a wasp, it’s better to be a queen.
