Have you encountered white worms in your home – usually in the kitchen area? Have you gone to sleep and woken up in the morning full of white worms in some corner of your home? In this article, we will review how we at Mezikis treat maggots and how you can get rid of these white worms.
Maggots are a nightmare, period. They are dirty, messy, and not something any of us like to have in our kitchen (or anywhere else). A fly infestation in the home can cause problems in the home, and it is best to get treatment before it becomes a problem that will be difficult to get rid of, especially since they can multiply throughout the home.
Where do maggots come from? And how do you treat them and prevent them from developing in the future?
Questions about maggots and worms | Short and to the point answers |
---|---|
What kills white worms quickly? | Hot water – Boil hot water and pour it on the fly maggots – this will kill them quickly. The next step is to locate them all.
|
How can I get rid of white worms in my house? | The first step is to locate all the maggots. Look for spoiled food, starting in the kitchen and looking for the source of the maggots. Do a thorough cleaning of the kitchen area and the cabinets that store food. Finally, call an exterminator to solve the problem once and for all. |
Will white worms eventually go away on their own? | These worms, the maggots, their life cycle lasts between 7-15 days. To one degree or another, if you do nothing, and deprive them of food and drink, they will die on their own. |
Why do I have white worms in my house? (Why do I deserve all this fun?) | This is not a coincidence. These white worms developed on a bed of spoiled food. You probably didn’t notice the fly that laid the eggs on this food (it could be spoiled food, a garbage bag, and other places). |
How long does it take for maggots to turn into flies? | From the moment the white worms appear in the house until they turn into flies, it takes an average of two to three weeks. |
Is it permissible to suck out fly maggots? | Sure – this is one step among many in the cleaning process – continue cleaning the cabinet under the sink, the pantry cabinet, and the snack drawer as well. |
Can maggots climb walls? | Unfortunately for us and especially for you. Yes. |
Are maggots a medical problem? | Even if you eat a lot of maggots, it’s likely that nothing will happen to you (apart from the feeling of disgust). |
Will we only discover fly larvae at night? | No, fly larvae develop and can hatch at any time of the day. You will likely see them more at night because it is a little harder to spot the fly eggs. If the eggs were laid in the morning, you will likely see the larvae late at night (hopefully that doesn’t happen). |

Fly maggots – where to look?
Fly maggots don’t just appear OUT OF THE BLUE. They are there for a reason (spoiler – probably dirt, heat and humidity). Flies are attracted to spoiled food found in your home and use that food as a breeding ground. The flies lay their eggs on the spoiled food bed and that’s usually where (once you find that food) the maggots will actually develop.
Once you understand where the maggots came from in your home, you can understand where you should start the pest control process in your home.

Where to look for the white worms?
First, look for white worms in the kitchen in general and in the cabinet under the sink in particular. The worms will appear wherever you store open food that is about to spoil. This could be the pantry cabinet, the cabinet under the sink, or even the snack drawer (if you seal snacks with rubber bands rather than in a box).
Another clue to maggots can be found in the area where you store your pet’s food.
Another “mistake” most of our customers make is that they don’t throw the trash bag straight into the trash can, but rather leave it in the stairwell for several hours (and even nights) until they take the bag out. During this time, maggots can develop in the food (which is usually already spoiling) inside the bin – and beyond the smell – can lead to maggots in your home.

White worms – identification
Before calling a maggot exterminator to treat the problem, you need to diagnose the pest you are facing. Be sure it is maggots. Compare with the picture and see if it is exactly what appears in your kitchen. If the identification is incorrect (although most likely we will recognize it as soon as we arrive) the treatment will be incorrect. Therefore, if you are not sure whether it is white worms or fly maggots, send us a WhatsApp with a picture of the pest in front of you.
Maggots are the food of flies.
In the home, they will often develop into houseflies. Maggots thrive in dirty places. If you store your trash in a cupboard under the sink and it doesn’t have a lid and the trash doesn’t exactly just stay in the trash – start your search there.
The last thing you want is to accidentally eat a maggot in food that was stored in an unhygienic place.
When a fly lays eggs – the eggs become larvae and hatch within 7-20 hours. Once they hatch they will start devouring anything they can get their hands on. They will eat anything they can.
Maggots look like worms – and you are right, mostly white worms in the kitchen (where you will see them 99% of the time).
- The worms are creamy white in color and usually 20 mm long.
- The maggots do not lay eggs and have 2 small parts that act like their mouth (for feeding).
- Worms and fly maggots are active throughout the year – although in most cases you will discover them more in spring-summer.
- Fly larvae (or white worms) live for an average of 14-21 days before turning into full-fledged flies.

What to look for? Flies or worms?
Look for the white worms first. If you don’t find any more worms, you will likely soon start seeing flies flying around your house. The flies will appear mainly in the area where you consume food, which will of course be the kitchen area. Where is the kitchen? Mainly in the trash area – if you (like many) put the trash in the cupboard under the sink (note – this is a cupboard that accumulates a lot of moisture and therefore should be cleaned at least once a week) – make sure that the trash is sealed and that *all* of the garbage is inside the trash bag and not elsewhere.
In rarer cases, maggots will appear in holes and crevices in the wall. In this case, of course, you should spray beyond the usual places, even if those cracks and crevices are in the wall – because in any case, we don’t want maggots to develop in our home – not in the kitchen or anywhere else.
Treatment of fly maggots and white worms
So once you’ve diagnosed and realized that these are white worms, it’s time to treat them. The treatment will focus on fly larvae and also adult flies (hopefully you caught the phenomenon early and they haven’t yet developed into adult flies).
Once we deal with both the maggots and the flies, we will know that there is no way new maggots will emerge afterwards.
Fly maggot control
First step:
Sanitize the house.
Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning. Clean the kitchen (like a Passover cleaning). Especially clean the cabinets where you store food, such as the cabinet under the sink, the pantry cabinet, and the snack drawers.
In the event that the white worms appear in places other than the kitchen, try to figure out where they came from and why. Did you leave open food in a bedroom for a long time? Did you forget the pet food (in an unsealed bag) on the utility balcony? Once you understand the reason, clean and disinfect that area.
Throw away contaminated food (because the larvae will be found in the food, remember?) and put food that you don’t fear will be contaminated in boxes (one of our common ailments is to seal bags with rubber bands – it doesn’t work).
Our recommendation is that even if you discovered the maggots in different places in the house and not in the kitchen – clean the kitchen properly anyway – to prevent them from coming next time.
Second and final step:
How to kill fly maggots? Pest control with Mezikis .
When spraying and exterminating maggots and whiteflies, we first spray the infested areas as well as the “prone to disaster” areas. Therefore, you must empty them as well (the cupboard under the sink and all the cupboards where you store food in the kitchen).
In addition, we will spray the kitchen countertop (yes, you will have to vacuum it too) and all the panels in the house.
We will look for cracks and other places where maggots can appear and then give you precise instructions on what to do after the pest control.
Beyond all this, you will receive a 6-month warranty that if maggots or white worms appear in the kitchen or other areas of the house – you will be entitled to repeated pest control free of charge (and lots of love).
And prevention for next time
After we got rid of fly maggots in the house and these worms, we will briefly give you some highlights so that they do not appear in your home again.
We’ll remind you one last time – cleaning, cleaning, and once again cleaning the house in general and the kitchen in particular. Make sure to clean the cupboard under the sink and cover the bin with a lid. Occasionally run bleach inside the bin (yes, under the bag) and clean the bin lid as well.
If you bought a white tin – make sure that it stays white and that black spots do not start to appear (this dirt is their bread and butter).
Wherever you tend to disregard the level of hygiene, not because you disregard your own character, but because that is life and it is impossible to keep everything clean – pay attention and expect harm. That is precisely where the pests will appear.
Pests, unlike us, are less spoiled. They will appear wherever it is dirty – so make it a habit to clean even where you can’t see it, behind the sofa, inside the cupboard under the sink, behind the oven, and in all the places where dirt accumulates and only you know about it.
