What are the most common pests?
Cockroaches – there is not a summer in Jerusalem, Modiin, Haifa and…you get the idea) that goes by without seeing cockroaches on the streets. Sure, on the street, but they come into our house (for those who are not lucky, they can see a cockroach flying out the window)! Cockroaches are disease carriers (since they live in sewers) – they won’t transmit diseases to you by climbing on you (although that’s disgusting in itself) but mainly if they climb on the food you consume – so have you encountered cockroaches? Hurry up and carry out pest control.
Ants and fire ants – Ants do not transmit diseases (except for the fire ants, which can) but they are a serious nuisance. They get into our food, are often found in the bathroom and bedroom, and in general – it is unpleasant to see ants just before you take a bite. So how often should pest control be carried out?
This is a question that varies from house to house, from an apartment on the 10th floor to a private house or a garden apartment, from an office to a restaurant, etc. The pests are here and they are here to stay – each season and its pest. In the spring and summer (which for us is from March to December) you will see more cockroaches, ants, fleas, mosquitoes, bedbugs, etc. In the colder months you will certainly pay more attention to rats, mice, bedbugs, German cockroaches , silverfish and even ants (as of winter 2024).
Apartments are usually exterminated once or twice a year (if you encounter different types of pests such as cockroaches in the summer and rats in the winter).
Private homes will probably need between 2-4 pest control treatments per year (towards spring – cockroaches, ants, mosquitoes once a month if you don’t enjoy using the garden due to mosquitoes, and in winter – winter pests such as rats and mice).
Offices – will likely need to be exterminated once or twice a year (the first time for the American cockroach and the second time for the German cockroach if you encounter it in the kitchenette).

Other common pests
Fleas – Fleas are parasites that arrive 99% of the time when there is cat litter in the vicinity of your home. The fleas will jump on you or your pet, then come to your home and start biting (to reproduce) and filling your legs with bites.

Rats and mice – You will see rats and mice more during the cold seasons in Israel (exactly two months), usually between December and March (as of 2023, winter only arrived on January 31). Termites – Termites have lived here before us and will probably live long after us. They are deep in the ground and can break out in hundreds at once without warning.
